ParkIT : Smart Parking System

Objective

The project aims at solving one of the problem statements in the Hackathon organized in our university. The objective was to address the parking issues faced by people on campus with the help of a smart parking system.

We brainstormed various ideas to solve the problem in the most cost-efficient manner. We used a simple grid of infrared sensors for the detection of vehicles in a parking lot. This helped us keep the cost down and also had other significant advantages which are explained in the video below. We also designed an application that would give the real-time status of parking lots on the campus and allows the user to book/reserve a spot in advance.
